Mez
Mez describes his artistry as "Dexter's Lab meets The Boondocks." You may remember Mez (formerly King Mez) aka Morris Wayne Ricks II from Dr. Dre's last album, Compton. Mez wrote 12 tracks on the album, and was featured on 3 of the songs at age 24. The Raleigh MC, producer, songwriter, and director was introduced to Dre by Rapper Big Pooh of Little Brother.
Fast forward to 2019 and Mez would play a big role in another big album; Dreamville's Revenge of the Dreamers III. Mez had features on the songs “Costa Rica” with Bas, JID, Buddy, Guapdad 4000, Jace, Reese LAFLARE, Ski Mask the Slump God, and Smokepurpp and “Sleep Deprived” with Lute, Omen, and DaVionne, as well as the deluxe version's “Passcode” with Ari Lennox, Buddy, Guapdad 4000, and Smino.
Mez has also worked with artists like SiR, Lecrae, and 9th Wonder. He has directed music videos like SiR's “Mood” featuring Zacari and J. Cole's “Middle Child” through his creative agency, Heirs. Though Mez has yet to release a full length album, some great solo music to check out are the A/B singles, Data Plan .001, Data Plan .002, and Data Plan .003.
In August 2020, Mez released “Loading…” his second release of the year following May’s “Southside Mez.”
