Spec Kay
Spec Kay aka Kareem Adeniran is an up-and-coming rapper from Roselle, New Jersey whose biggest musical influences span across hip-hop royalty, top-tier lyricists, and genre-fusing pioneers; Jay-Z, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Daft Punk, Pharrell, Clipse, Lupe Fiasco, and Kanye West. Spec Kay’s passion for music and hip-hop started to transcend that of a casual listener around the age of 13, and he started making music around the age of 17. Today, regarding his sound, he says, “My music draws inspiration from the soulful sample-base of J Dilla, No ID, The Alchemist, while masterfully matching it with. the high-octane energy reminiscent of Metro Boomin, Cardo, Travis Scott. My soundscapes weave a tapestry of eclectic beats and melodies. At its core, my music isn't just about the auditory experience; it's a vessel for insightful messaging delivered with a dash of wit. It's an invitation to explore the depths of emotion while grooving to infectious rhythms, making every track a unique blend of soul, energy, and lyrical finesse.”
Spec Kay released his first three projects, XXVII: Nowhere, Out Here, Vol. 1, and Overdub on DSPs in 2017, 2019, and 2021, respectively. Flirting with a variety of sounds and flows, Spec Kay takes you along his journey to find his musical footing. On songs like “Yellow Beams,” you can hear the raw potential and specialness in him as an artist. After an apparent brief hiatus, Spec Kay returned in 2024 with Out Here, Vol. II. The project stars lead single “Mariachi,” with tracks like “Access Code Pt. 2” and “Poseidon” standing out as Fresh Scoops favorites as well. On Out Here, Vol. II, Spec Kay still introduces a variety of flows and sounds as he did on his first 3 projects (for example, “Mariachi” and “Poseidon” are far different vibes), but he is able to assemble a much more cohesive body of work that displays his maturity as an artist.
