After making contributions to the albums Melt My Eyez See Your Future by Denzel Curry, Gothic Luxury by Meechy Darko, and GHETTO GODS by EARTHGANG, Shawn K is ready to shift the spotlight on himself. Growing up in Cleveland, OH, Shawn K first started rapping while playing Tony Hawk video games on his Xbox, beginning around the age of 9 in 2004. Fast forward five years and Shawn K started recording music using a Rock Band microphone gifted to him by his manager. Today, Shawn K describes his sound as alternative rap with instruments and synths. He says the sound is built from hip-hop while being decorated in R&B and alternative rock. He lists his biggest influences in all three genres, with hip-hop legends Kanye West, Kid Cudi, and Nelly, R&B classics John Legend, Usher, and Justin Timberlake, Alternative band favorites Gorillaz, My Chemical Romance, Foster the People, and Fall Out Boy, and lastly, the genre-blurring Nujabes.
In 2022, Shawn K announced that he had signed a deal with 10K Projects, home to other acts like Internet Money, Peachtree Rascals, and Trippie Redd. Since then, he has released three singles, “Where U Been,” “High As I,” and “Loose Lips.” The three tracks are set to appear on Shawn K’s upcoming debut EP, The Forbidden Flee. Beyond his own music, Shawn K has worked on songs for some of the biggest artists in hip-hop. He provided vocals for Denzel Curry’s “Zatoichi” and Meechy Darko’s “Get Lit or Die Tryin’.” He’s also done A&R and provided writing assistance for the likes of midwxst and Jasiah.
