Malik Moses
Malik Moses was announced in November 2021 as the first signee to mixing engineer, MixedByAli’s label, NoName Recordings. Ali, who has mixed records for TDE artists like Kendrick Lamar and SZA, as well as other A-listers like Mac Miller, Nipsey Hussle, and Childish Gambino, discovered the 25-year-old, Malik Moses through a contest he ran on his Twitch channel. During the COVID-19 lockdown, Ali had artists submit music weekly to be featured on his stream and then would have viewers vote for their favorites. The artist who received the most votes at the end of the competition would receive a free trip to LA to record and have a record mixed by Ali himself. It turned out that Ali had even bigger plans for Malik Moses. Ali has already given the Baltimore artist high praise, telling Rolling Stone, “The way he was able to really catch my attention with his selection of beats, the way his production was laid out, the way his songwriting and just how he carried himself sonically, that reminded me of working with Kendrick and working with Thundercat and Terrace Martin.”
The announcement of Malik Moses being the first signee to NoName recordings was accompanied by the artist’s first single, “Show Me Something” featuring Bas. Before the announcement and release of this song, Malik wiped the streaming services clean of all of his old music, to start off fresh. Still, Fresh Scoops was able to hunt down one track, “Marvin Gaye” that gives listeners D’Angelo vibes and makes you all the more excited for what’s to come with Malik Moses. Malik later released this full song, shortening to the title, “Marvin” with a performance on COLORS in 2022. Shortly before this in 2022, Malik Moses released his debut project, Show Me Something New, a 7-track EP with features from Terrace Martin and Bas, highlighted by the song “Constellations.”
