Eric Penn
Eric Penn is an R&B singer who grew up singing in church and decided to switch up the subject matter and make it a career. Eric says that he “grew up understanding the power of music by seeing how it moved a congregation. [He’s] been obsessed with music since [he] was old enough to remember.” He drew early inspiration from gospel artists like John P. Kee and Smokie Norful. Exploring other genres, Eric Penn grew up in Virginia Beach listening to and being influenced by hometown heroes, N.E.R.D. and Missy Elliott. He also lists other artists like Nas, Prince, André 3000, and most recently, Frank Ocean as being major influences.
Currently based in Harlem NY, Eric Penn describes his sound as eclectic. He says that he “draws from all types of music, and the beauty of artistry is to continue to let [his] sound evolve.” Eric released his first project, Jaco Sessions in 2017 at age 29. High points of the album include, “Sweet Dixie (Jaco Session 9),” “Grandiose (Jaco Session 6)” featuring Mark Ferg, and “Procrastination (Jaco Session 3)” featuring Mark Ferg and Timmy P. Since the release of this album, Eric Penn has yet to release another full length project. Still, he has kept busy releasing the EP, Songs I Wish You Heard, with standout track, “Sinking Sand,” and other singles like “Enough.” Additionally, Eric Penn has jumped on a few features, most notably, fellow Virginian, Al-Doms’ “I WONDER.” Eric Penn recently recorded live sessions of some of his personal favorites from his discography, which can be watched on YouTube or listened to on Audiomack.
