The season 1 winner of Netflix's Rhythm & Flow, D Smoke aka Daniel Farris is looking to be rap's next lyrical superstar. Prior to appearing on the competition show, D Smoke had worked as a songwriter and also taught Spanish and music at Inglewood High. D Smoke made his first official appearance as a feature on his brother, SiR's song, “You Ain't Ready” from the 2015 album, Seven Sundays.

Winning the competition show at age 34, D Smoke impressed the fans and judges in every round with his powerful lyrics and ability to jump back and forth between English and Spanish. He showed his star potential particularly in the music video round, with the Denaro Love produced, “Let Migo” and in the finale, with the Sounwave produced, “Last Supper.” However, the pivotal moment for D Smoke came in the sample round, when he performed “When The Kids Pull Up.” Despite forgetting the words in the second verse, D Smoke still managed to have the best performance of the episode (you can hear the full version here).

Following his victory, D Smoke released his EP, Inglewood High and was featured on The Game's “Cross on Jesus Back” before the end of 2019. In 2020, he released his debut album, Black Habits. The album features Snoop Dogg, Jill Scott, Ari Lennox, and both of his brothers, SiR and Davion Farris. Notable songs include “Bullies,” “Gaspar Yanga,” and “Closer to God.” Also in 2020, D Smoke was featured on fellow Rhythm & Flow finalist, Troyman's song, “Rapido” along with judge, T.I. He released “Let Go” with SiR in May 2020, a song he says he wrote "the day they killed George Floyd." That same month, he featured on the remix of JAHMED’s “TWOTEN” along with Mozzy.
