Arin Ray
As the son of New Edition's drummer and the nephew of one of Marvin Gaye's backup singers, Arin Ray was bound to be a talented musician. In 2011, his mother convinced the then 15-year-old to audition for the first season of Fox's The X Factor. After being put into a group and being eliminated, Ray returned the next season as a solo act and made it all the way to the live shows. Ray then went home to Cincinnati, Ohio, graduated high school, and moved to Los Angeles where Yung Berg aka Hitmaka became a mentor. It was then that Ray earned credits working with artists like Chris Brown, Jeremih, and Nicki Minaj.
In 2016, Arin Ray released his debut EP, Phases which features fellow rising stars Boogie and Jessie Reyez, with standout track, “I.” Two years later, in 2018, he signed to Interscope and released his debut album, Platinum Fire, with features from Ty Dolla $ign, DRAM, YG, Childish Major, SiR, Terrace Martin, and Babyface. The album’s best tracks include “Old School,” “Platinum Fire,” the Busta Rhymes sampling, “Fuck Y’all,” and “Reckless.” In 2019, Ray released Phases II, highlighted by the single, "“Change” featuring Kehlani.
