Bums
Watch the recap video of Ice Cream Fridae, a Fresh Scoops live event featuring Bums
Bums are a hip-hop collective from Richmond, Indiana inspired not only by rap greats like Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, and Jay-Z, but also, genre-blending, new artists like Jean Dawson and Roy Blair, and even movies like Goodfellas and Fantastic Mr. Fox. Bums are emerging at a perfect time in an era where hip-hop boy bands are at peak value. While Odd Future set the mold years ago, BROCKHAMPTON took it to the next level, and new groups like AG Club, Van Buren Records, and Bums are setting the stage for the future. Though hip-hop at its core, Bums’ music would be best described as a blend of rap and alternative.
Managed by Nick Mathews, the group is comprised of 9 official members:
Xdam (Adam Mathews) - vocalist, producer, and engineer
Kevin Calderon (Ismael Calderon) - rapper
Jayden Frye - rapper
Kellan Grae (Kellan Mauller) - vocalist and graphic designer
Kid Menti (Joey Chimenti) - vocalist
Vaw Golde (Jackson Haynes) - rapper and producer
Noah Illano - producer, engineer, graphic designer, and videographer
Sam Gamboa - vocalist and videographer
Anthony Gross - graphic designer, photographer, and producer
Bums released their debut album, Avery in June 2021, around the time most of the group was graduating from high school. A well-crafted album, Avery has everything, including pop culture references, mature, genre-fusing production, and plenty of different vibes. Avery sees high points on the opening two tracks, “Go Home” and “Cherry,” as well as the single, “Taxicab.”
